Abstract

The article draws on a chapter from Boyan Biolchev’s book Stanisław Wyspiański – Encyclopaedist of Neoromanticism (2003). It studies the following contextual aspects of Wyspiański’s plays Bolesław the Brave (Bolesław Śmiały) and Skałka: Wyspiański‘s defining creative relationship with his native Krakow; the playwright’s englobing vision of the two works and intention to stage them as a single play; the historical sources and the literary and historical genesis of the theme of conflict between the king and the bishop­saint; Słowacki‘s influence; critical evaluations of the two­play cycle.

Author Biography

Bojan Biołczew, prof., Katedra Filologii Słowiańskiej, Uniwersytet Sofijski im. św. Klimenta Ochrydzkiego, Sofia, Bułgaria.

Dr nauk filologicznych, polonista i slawista, pisarz, scenarzysta i reżyser, uczestnik ekspedycji polarnych na Antarktydę. Rektor Uniwersytetu Sofijskiego (1999–2007), dziekan Wydziału Filologicznego (1995–1999), kierownik Katedry Filologii Słowiańskiej (1992–1995), prezes sekcji literaturoznawczej Światowej Rady Slawistów (od r. 1998), członek Światowej akademii „Platon” (od r. 2002), a także wielu rad redakcyjnych wydań filologicznych i kulturowych. Autor ponad 200 publikacji naukowych i około 20 książek beletrystycznych (zbiory opowiadań, nowele, powieści, krótka proza satyryczna). Ukończył polonistykę na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim (1968), obronił pracę magisterską pod kierownictwem prof. Kazimierza Wyki. Od r. 1972 jest wykładowcą literatur słowiańskich na Uniwersytecie Sofijskim. Jego główne zainteresowania polonistyczne są związane z polską literaturą renesansową, romantyczną i modernistyczną, z twórczością Jana Kochanowskiego, Adama Mickiewicza, Stanisława Wyspiańskiego. Monografia Bojana Biołczewa Отвъд мита. Адам Бернард Мицкевич. Между осанката на народния пророк и homo ludens, 1996 została wydana w języku polskim pod tytułem Po drugiej stronie mitu. Adam Bernard Mickiewicz. Pomiędzy aureolą wieszcza i homo ludens (2004). Inne najważniejsze monografie polonistyczne to: Станислав Виспянски – енциклопедист на неоромантизма, 2003 (Stanisław Wyspiański – encyklopedysta neoromantyzmu), Пътят на едно възраждане. Самобитност и европейски традиции на полския ренесанс (Droga odrodzenia. Samobytność i tradycje europejskie polskiego renesansu). Bojan Biołczew jest autorem wielu scenariuszy filmowych (dokumentalnych oraz fabularnych), m.in.: Славянската цивилизация (Cywilizacja słowiańska), Войната свършва днес (Wojna kończy się dziś), Тайната на дяволското оръжие (Tajemnica diabelskiego oręża), Леденият континент (Kontynent lodowy).
