Abstract

Starting with this issue, our journal will include a completely redesigned Book Review Section, featuring three to five high-quality reviews by leading and emerging scholars from around the world. As for the selection of the books to be reviewed, even though I am a literary scholar, it is my intention as Review Editor to consider books that engage with the U.S. and the Americas as a hemispheric and global phenomenon from a wide range of perspectives and disciplines, including anthropology, art history, and media studies.

Author Biography

Manlio Della Marca, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, Germany

Manlio Della Marca holds a Ph.D. in English-language literatures from the “Sapienza” University of Rome, where he studied under Alessandro Portelli, one of the world’s leading oral historians. Before joining LMU’s Department of English and America Studies, Manlio was a Doctoral Fellow at the International Forum for U.S. Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2010) and a BAA Research Fellow at the Eva Hesse Archive of Modernism and Literary Translation in Munich (autumn 2013). In 2014, he was awarded a DAAD postdoctoral fellowship for his project on the unpublished correspondence of Ezra Pound with the media theorist Marshall McLuhan and Eva Hesse, the highly acclaimed German translator of Pound, E.E. Cummings, and Langston Hughes. His publications include essays on Edith Wharton, Thomas Pynchon, Philip K. Dick, Maxine Hong Kingston, and Leslie Marmon Silko. He is currently working on a book titled “Homo Legens: Modes and Moods of Reading” and will be co-editing a critical edition of the Pound-Hesse letters. He is also Book Review Editor of the International Review of American Studies (RIAS), the flagship journal of the International American Studies Association.
