Abstract
Autorka w Historii Egiptu. Od podboju arabskiego do czasów współczesnych ukazuje więc, jak na przestrzeni dziesiątków lat Egipcjanie widzieli główne wyzwania dla ich państwa, związane z zachodzącymi przemianami społeczno‑ekonomiczno‑politycznymi, powstaniem i upadkiem Imperium Osmańskiego, rozkwitem tendencji fundamentalistycznych i nawoływaniem do powrotu do źródeł islamu, działalnością Stowarzyszenia Braci Muzułmanów i delegalizacją tego ugrupowania, kształtowaniem się nowożytnego państwa egipskiego, jego funkcjonowania w okresie zimnej wojny i rywalizacji dwóch supermocarstw — USA i ZSRR — o pozyskanie go jako sojusznika, a w końcu procesem globalizacji, amerykanizacji świata, końcem zimnej wojny i skutkami tych zjawisk dla państwowości Egiptu, jego gospodarki, polityki, społeczeństwa, a nawet dla ruchów fundamentalistycznych działających w Egipcie. Obrazuje również kwestie związane z islamem i sytuacją kobiet w Egipcie na przestrzeni wieków, wokół których to kwestii narosło przez lata wiele mitów i nieporozumień.
