Abstract

The text analyses the process of naming Animals by humans. This process is treated here as a complex
phenomenon that has its psychological, sociological, social, philosophical and linguistic aspects. In the text, the Author focuses on two sides of the coin: naming animals can be treated as an act of subjectivisation, but on the other hand, by giving names to animals, humans try to reproduce an anthropocentric hierarchy of species. In this context it is worth analyzing not only giving names, but also abandoning or changing them.

Author Biography

Hanna Mamzer, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

Dr hab. prof. Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, pracuje w Zakładzie Socjologii Kultury i Cywilizacji Współczesnej, psycholog i socjolog. Jest biegłym sądowym przy Sądzie Okręgowym w Poznaniu w dziedzinie: etologia psa, dobrostan psów i relacje człowieka z psem. Współpracuje z fundacjami i organizacjami prozwierzęcymi, promującymi empatyczne podejście do zwierząt. Prowadzi szkolenia i wykłady z zakresu relacji człowieka ze zwierzętami, szczególnie z psami. Aktywnie podejmuje działania na rzecz dobrostanu zwierząt. Systematycznie poszerza swoją wiedzę w zakresie etologii psa poprzez uczestnictwo w specjalistycznych kursach, seminariach. Absolwentka studiów podyplomowych z zakresu relacji człowieka z psem w Wyższej Szkole Gospodarstwa Wiejskiego w Warszawie. Prezes stowarzyszenia „Czysta Nekla – Stowarzyszenie Ekologiczne”. Prowadzi dom tymczasowy dla psów, promuje adopcję psów schroniskowych. Członkini Polskiego Towarzystwa Etycznego oraz Lokalnej Komisji Etycznej ds. Eksperymentów na Zwierzętach. Stypendystka licznych fundacji, w tym Komisji Fulbrighta. Wykłada w Polsce i za granicą.
