Abstract

The Baroque emblem in an allegorical form conveys certain ideas to the reader. Man of the Baroque era perceived the world as a book. All elements of the universe served as signs, and certain ideas were conveyed with their help. The Baroque emblem, being a combination of the signs in question, represented an allegorical image. Death, the death of animals in particular, could teach a person a moral lesson, that is why the death of animals is represented quite widely in the emblem books. Emblems often contain a certain precept or denunciation of a vice, but they can point to a role model. Deer, lion, phoenix are represented most often in the emblems depicting the death of animals.
