Abstract

The paper postulates reading works by Paul Tillich mainly as a great humanist, whose background for thinking, anticipating his theological considerations, is priceless for a wide field of the humanistic reflections. The author indicates items permanently having difficulties in coming to the fore of humanistic thinking and still being profoundly elaborated and successfully applied in Tillich’s systematic perspective. The text shows up some selected items from the three subsequent volumes of Systematic Theology, linked with the
categories which permit to reject dualistic claims inherent in a dominant thinking about culture, social life, science and humanities. The author situates Tillich’s reading within the horizon of “the duality turn-over” described by Lech Witkowski, and thus it makes a reference to his cognitive profiles disclosing possibilities of humanistic applications of the ideas of the great theologist beyond his institutional framework.

Monika Jaworska Witkowska is an Associate Professor at the Pomeranian University in Słupsk, a cultural educator, philosopher of education and culture, special educator and psychotraumatologist, sociotherapist and psychosocial skills workshop trainer, art therapist, hypnotherapist, painter, cartoonist and culture animator. Her research interests are mainly located in the area of the philosophy of culture, psychoanalysis, cultural anthropology, as well as the philosophy and theory of art. She is a lover of the Italian Renaissance. An author of 16 books (3 co-authored), and editor of 14 other monographs, Jaworska-Witkowska runs the Laboratorium Existence art therapy studio (art therapy and psychotraumatology studio) at the Słupsk Cultural Center. She is also head of the Art Studio at the Pomeranian University in Słupsk, author of over 80 scholarly articles. Jaworska-Witkowska serves as expert at the International Bateson Institute in the field of mind ecology. She is a Member of the Council of the International Institute of Hermeneutics. A holder of scholarships and artistic grants of the Mayor of the City of Bydgoszcz (2019, 2020), she held over 20 exhibitions of her works in Poland and abroad, including (Z)namiętne (z)myślenia.
