About the Journal

Narracje o Zagładzie (Narrations of the Shoah) is an academic journal published biannually devoted to the problem of the Holocaust and other genocides in contemporary humanities. The profile of the journal is connected to the activity of the Centre of the Shoah Discourses at the University of Silesia in Katowice. We publish articles both following the long tradition of the Holocaust studies (devoted to the analyses and discoveries of unique documents, including the literary testimonies) and transgressing their canonical horizon, diverting towards posthumanities and popular culture studies instead: especially, ecocide and genocide studies. Literary research is the primary discipline of our interest, whereas history, cultural studies, and art history are often employed as valuable contexts.

The journal is indexed in Erih Plus: https://dbh.nsd.uib.no/publiseringskanaler/erihplus/periodical/info.action?id=494979

The purpose and scope of the journal

The purpose of the articles published in our journal is to trace the emerging trends in the Holocaust studies and genocide studies, which are rooted in the humanities and social sciences. The articles are devoted to cutting-edge theoretical concepts, readings of a particular material, and most recent academic books reviewed in our journal. Aside from that, we do focus on the edition of unknown documents and accounts that proved to be important for the development of the Holocaust studies and genocide studies, and translations of texts never published in Polish before, which – as we do believe – might be beneficial to the development of our field in Poland.

Firstly, the topics of the articles we publish contextualise and expand the traditionally understood literary and cultural studies oriented at the Shoah, providing them with new critical tools. Secondly, these articles are related to the non-anthropocentric humanities and social sciences, and the so-called post-Holocaust studies, which – unlike classical Holocaust studies – often venture into the issues of war, catastrophes, camps, and non-Jewish experience.
