Wojciech Kuczok’s Gnój in Croatian and Serbian Translation: Two Strategies for Translating the Silesian Dialect

Abstract

This article deals with the Croatian and Serbian translation of the Silesian dialect, which appears in Wojciech Kuczok’s novel Gnój. The analysis includes the dialect stylization present in the source text, as well as the strategies and techniques used for its translations. The various translation solutions used by the translators also were compared and evaluated.

PAULINA PYCIA-KOŠĆAK | dr nauk humanistycznych w zakresie językoznawstwa, adiunkt w Instytucie Językoznawstwa Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach. Jej zainteresowania naukowe koncentrują się na: językoznawstwie kontrastywnym, szczególnie chorwacko-polskim, socjolingwistyce, a także ekwiwalencji przekładowej i glottodydaktyce. Autorka monografii pt. Płeć a język (na materiale współczesnego języka polskiego i chorwackiego), powstałej na podstawie rozprawy doktorskiej (2011), i ponad 30 artykułów naukowych. Współredaktorka dwóch tomów zbiorowych o Chorwacji lat siedemdziesiątych (2010) i osiemdziesiątych (2011) oraz tomu pokonferencyjnego Periferno u hrvatskom jeziku, kulturi i društvu (2021).
